What is British art?
What does ‘British’ mean to me?
Who owns all the paintings in our local galleries?
If I make art, am I a British artist?
The Great British Art Debate asks all these questions and more. It’s not about giving you all the answers but asking you to share your opinions on British art and what it means to you.
In the run up to the London Olympics in 2012, there’ll be blockbuster exhibitions, free displays, events and talks around the country as well as a Great British Art Debate website, and your ideas will help to shape the exhibitions and activities. Tate Britain, Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service and Museums Sheffield are all sharing art and ideas between their galleries and this is your chance to join in the debate, and say what you think about art and Britishness.
